ACS supports industry standard metrics, such as COUNTER, and has adopted the COUNTER 4 standard. COUNTER 4 allows publishers and libraries to easily differentiate download requests made for articles published under open access models, such as ACS AuthorChoice, ACS Editors’ Choice, and ACS Central Science.

Articles featured in the ACS Editors’ Choice program will be open immediately upon publication and will remain open for all to access and read.
Not at this time, but ACS Editors’ Choice and ACS Central Science both have alerting services. We plan to expand our search options to include this filter capability in the near future.
Are the author publishing agreements and licensing arrangements for this new service the same as with ACS journals with regard to ACS Editors’ Choice?
Yes. Authors sign the ACS’s standard Journal Publishing Agreement upon submission. Once an article has been selected for ACS Editors’ Choice, authors are extended a complimentary ACS AuthorChoice publishing license for no fee.
If an author chooses to make an article openly available by selecting one of the ACS AuthorChoice options, are they still eligible to be selected for ACS Editors’ Choice?
Yes, when an author has elected ACS AuthorChoice and his/her article is selected for ACS Editors’ Choice, ACS refunds the ACS AuthorChoice fee already paid.

Articles are selected based on recommendations from the more than 400 Editors of ACS’s 40+ peer-reviewed journals who are active researchers located around the world. A panel of ACS Publications Managing Editors, each PhD-level scientists conversant with the current scientific research, select articles for inclusion.
It is not a new journal. ACS Editors’ Choice is a service for authors and readers aimed at maximizing the accessibility of work that exemplifies the Society’s commitment to improving people’s lives though the transforming power of chemistry.
