What are the options for ACS authors funded by US Department of Energy (DOE)?

To enable public availability of their work in compliance with the DOE’s public access policy, ACS authors in receipt of DOE funding may:

  • Purchase an ACS AuthorChoice open access license.   ACS AuthorChoice options enable the author to make the final published article (i.e. the Version of Record), openly available on the ACS publications website immediately or 12 months after publication, at prices starting as low as $750. DOE’s PAGES, through CHORUS, will then direct users to the ACS AuthorChoice article on the ACS Publications website. Authors may deposit a copy of their final published article in the DOE repository instead of the accepted manuscript.
  • Self-deposit the accepted manuscript version in the DOE repository for open access 12 months after publication, according to procedures administered by DOE. There is no fee or additional license required by ACS for this self-deposit option. Note that if the article is not ACS AuthorChoice, DOE’s PAGES will direct readers to the accepted manuscript version, made publicly available at 12 months after publication.
  • Take advantage of ACS Author Rewards. The Corresponding Author of each peer reviewed article published in 2014 receives two $750 ACS Author Rewards to fund any ACS AuthorChoice option within the next three years (2015-2017); credits are transferable to another author.

ACS joins DOE in encouraging users with questions, comments or suggestions regarding the DOE’s public access plan and its PAGES service to visit the DOE PAGES Feedback page at http://www.osti.gov/pages/feedback.
